In a recently screened sneak peek from tomorrow night’s episode, Carmen asks what makes Rachel think that she’s more entitled things then others? That she has the right to as many chances as it takes for her to get it right? Why she deserves more attention, chances and sympathy then others who have the same dreams and goals as she?
Tina steps in here, and while attempting to defend Rachel, she actually just ends up proving Carmen’s point:
She acknowledges that whatever Rachel wants she gets, whether she’s deserving of it, whether she’s earned it, doesn’t matter, she’ll get it if she wants it, but that it’s ok, because Rachel’s talented. It’s ok because she has ‘drive’ and ‘focus’ and that she should be allowed to bitch and beg her way into whatever she wants and that she should get preferential treatment, because she’s talented, and if she doesn’t earn or deserve something then it’s not her fault, because she’s obviously just having an off-day, and therefore she should just get what she wants without question.
Tina proves Carmen’s point exactly, Rachel does believe she should get preferential treatment, more attention, more chances and whatever she wants just because she’s talented, everyone in the glee club believes this as well because she’s a big fish in a little pond. Tina’s attempt at using this as a defence merely goes to prove Carmen’s point, there are a lot of Rachel’s in the world, those with the same ‘drive’, ‘focus’, talent and with the same dreams and goals, and yet for some reason Rachel thinks that she’s somehow different, better, more entitled, when nothing could be further from the truth - Rachel shouldn’t get yet another chance, she needs this harsh slap in the face from reality in order to grow, in order to start attempting to achieve her dreams realistically, in order for her to gain some perspective, in order for her to grow as a person in general.
Tina does not absolve Rachel of all she’s guilty of here, she simply proves Carmen’s point exactly.
